I have a 50' Samsung HDTV and I've been told its only a 720p tv but when i go to the display settings on my PS3 and i test the 1080i display and it works but the 1080p does not. Will my tv play blu-ray?

  1. yes

  2. it should, it just won't be at full resolultion, but it will still look a lot better than standard DVDs

  3. Yes it will...it just will not support the max 1090p...it will work just fine though

  4. All Bluray discs are encoded at 1080p, so you need a TV that is HDMI 1.3 compliant and accepts 1080p as it's native resolution to achieve 1080p picture quality.  Your TV's native resolution is 720p, and also will accept an "upscaled" image of 1080i. So either one will work, but I always tell people whose home theaters I have installed, is to use the TV's native resolution (in your case 720p) this way multiple scaling isnt happening.

So set the PS3 to 720p and enjoy your Bluray movies.
