Will boss be upset about B-day card with his age on it?

I am in charge of getting all the birthday cards at my work. My boss turns 85 tomorrow and I got him a card that says "Happy 85th Birthday." It's no secret that he is old and most men his age retired 20 years ago.

Do you think maybe this was a faux pas?

  1. Depends on how he feels about his age, if he's usually the type that would joke around that sort of thing I don't see why not.

  2. i think he might get mad

but just celebrate his b-day (not the age)

  3. It depends on how he handles his age and what everyone's messages will be.  Now is the time to save all the "you're old" jokes and celebrate that he is still alive and, I hope, doing well.

  4. No, I wouldn't think so. . .Cakes usually give an age too. . . If he is still working and active at 85, that is tremendous and worth celebrating ! ! !  Being active keeps you young, and "up on the times".  He probably won't even notice it, but will certainly appreciate the gesture ! !

  5. Honestly don't think he'd be upset at all.

An 85th birthday is a mile-stone, and if he's like my dad was, he'll be pleased with the acknowledgment!

  6. Seems a bit tacky to me.  He knows he is old and probably does not need a reminder.  To be sure get a different card.
