Question:

Will brand new skis (after being waxed) be very slippery on the slopes?

I just bought a pair of skis the other day. They place where I am getting them mounted puts a complimentary wax on them. Will it be hard to ski after this?

I've always rented up until this point, I'm not really sure what to expect with the new skis.

Thank you.

  1. I've been an expert skier for over 35 yrs. & there's such thing as waxing your skis too much. I always keep my skis waxed & it does make you a much better skier. By all means take the complimentary wax!!!

Most rental places keep their skis in excellent shape & they're waxed regularly since they're used so much & the wax helps the skis last longer & protects the skis.

Because your skis are brand new & just waxed, they will be in the best condition. What I will advise you if you want to be on the safe side is to be careful on your first couple of runs until you get the feel of your new skis. Chances are they will be faster than the skis you've rented but you want them this way since the wax is good for the skis.

Take your first few runs slower until you learn to turn & stop on your new skis & stay off the expert runs until you feel your completely under control. Since you've skied for awhile, I'm sure you already have some ability & you don't sound like a beginner.

Your skis may be a little faster but you should be able to turn & stop much better. Use that first day to break them in & then you won't have to worry after that. You should never really have a problem with brand new skis, especially when they've just been waxed!!! HAVE FUN!!!

  2. it will only be better. you should wax your skis at least once a week if you ski a lot  if you dont once a month its good for your base it nourishes it so it doesnt come all dry. when you wax your skis its suppose to be better on snow but dont worry its not as if its gonna be so fast that you wont be able to stand on your skis . its not as if they put HF wax or anything like that. enjoy your new skis!!!

  3. If they were waxed properly they will...slick skis are a good thing, not a bad thing.

  4. The skiis will turn easier and be easier to control with a good wax. The ski is designed to slide forward, backward and sideways, Keep your weight centered on the whole foot, apply pressure to the front of the ski with shin pressure against the tongue of the boot.  The all temperature wax that the shop will use is not as fast as a specific range wax and it will rub off very soon.  To be a better skier, you must learn how to glide smoothly, that requires a good wax on the skiis.

Have fun, you will get used to them in about 5 minutes.
