No, I do it too.  Just don't to it too much or else you might damage the enamel on your teeth.  Do it every other day.

No, not unless you over brush.  Why don't you try something like Colgate Whitening toothpaste with baking soda and peroxide instead?  It tastes a lot better than plain baking soda, plus you are getting the toothpaste, baking soda, and peroxide, all of which will help to whiten . It will also leave you with a fresher breath.
