Question:

Will buying a new wireless router fix this problem?

My wireless router isn't connecting with my laptop. It's not an electricity, computer, proximity or anything problem. I don't know what the problem is. My computer's working fine but it doesn't pick up my functional router which is working fine, but maybe there are IP address or firewall considerations. This is frustrating.

However, I've been meaning to get a new, different, upgraded router in any case.

Will I still experience the same connection failure problems if I get and install a whole new router?

Please help! Thank you.

  1. First, have you unplugged the router and let it restart?  Most people fail to try that before "giving up".  Routers have small computers in them and sometimes just need a reboot to work correctly. Unplug the power, wait a full minute or two - time it - reconnect power and wait for the router to finish rebooting. Then try it.

If that fails, check to see if there is new firmware out for it!  Most manufacturers update router firmware when an issue occurs, check the web site for your router and be sure you have the latest firmware. If not download an install it!  You will be surprised the number of issues that get corrected with that change.

Then as a last ditch effort - reset the router to factory defaults and reinstall it from the new settings.. see what happens. This is a pain but works in many cases as well.

If all that still fails, then go get another router. Routers do fail but not too often.
