I'm 15 and have my restricted license to drive to work and school in Kansas. Basically what does adding me to my parent's policy do and about how much more will it cost?

  1. For automobile insurance the obvious way to get a fantastic rate is do a policy comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you compare similar policies with the same limits, auto make, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I most often recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have lots of insurers and will give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.

  2. Their policy will go up considerably until you reach the age of 25.  That is the age limit for males, and the age limit for females is 21.  The insurance companies explain this with the answer that females mature earlier than males.  Go figure!  I have a son.

  3. Yes, your parent's insurance will probably go up drastically.  It is not cheap to insure a teen driver.  The exact cost of your insurance is hard to estimate though without knowing which type of vehicle you are driving, your gender, or where in Kansas you live.

Make sure your students ask their insurance company about the good student discount if you have a B average or better in school.  I would also tell your parent's to compare a few quotes from other insurance companies as well as getting a quote for you from their current insurance company.  They might find that a different company is cheaper to insure you with.

  4. yes, but it is a MUCH better option than getting your own policy. if you are in your teens to early twenties, your own policy could cost upwards of $3000 per year depending on what you are driving. i know someone who is 18 and has a bad driving record. he's driving a turbocharged car and his insurance is 2500 FOR 6 MONTHS. $5000 a year. obviously a cost like that is impractical. if you are added on your parent's plan, it will go up, but not by that much. see if you can work out a deal with your parents where you can pay for the cost increase that resulted from you being added on the plan. it will not be substantial. go online to some insurance websites and get quotes (allstate website is best for this) to get a rough estimate of what the cost is going to be. good luck.

  5. I can't tell you how much it'll cost, but it will make their insurance premium go up.  You're young, a new driver, and considered to be more of a hazard on the road.
