  2. You have to sue the mechanic for that. See a lawyer. Car insurance covers accidents, your liability, and some have medical payments. The mechanic should have business coverage for negligence.

  3. That depends.  If you had mechanical work done and it failed and the failure caused you to hit someone then yes there's coverage. If the work was done by a shop and not by you or a friend the insurance company will go after the shop for the damages that were done.

  4. If you mean will your insurance pay to make good the mechanics faulty workmanship, then the answer is no. If you had an accident because the brakes failed after being worked on, then yes your policy will respond. However this would be considered an at-fault claim and your rates would go up. Plus if the brakes were not damaged in the accident they wouldn't be covered.
