first it was the lotto machines inside bars and at the airport. eventually most of them were shut down because of the addictions they created.

casinos have ruined many lives divided families cost many families their childrens tuition, home, and many deaths from suicide. why is it still considered a place to have fun ?

people like Donald Trump who made lots of money off of addicts are respected in society but bookies aren't.

  1. Personally i think they shouldn't be closed down. Yes people have lost lives and familes and all their money, but if they are that stupid (no offence to people who have) to go that far then thats their fault. Many generations may want to play when they grow older, i don't think some stupid addicts should ruin it for them.

  2. you could say that about a lot of things. but it is a free country and no one ever forced the addicts to play. they made the choice on there own. poker can be fun. its the same with alchohol. should we shut down all bars b/c select ppl cant control themselves. that is why there is an age limit set. by the time you are a certain age, you need to become responsible and be able to make your own decisions. some ppl will just have to learn things the hard way. there is help available to those ppl.

  3. Casinos are here to stay and more states are trying to legalize gambling for the money. If it means my taxes will be lowered...I'm all for it!  I like visiting casinos from time to time, it provides a diversion from every day life. I allocate my money for the trip, and once the money is gone...so am I.  I usually have a super time and if I win some money...it's a super duper time!

Casinos are just buildings. Gambling has ruined some lives. Unfortunately, some people become addicted to gambling and don't recognize that they have a problem, before it's too late and they have gone through the money.

I would not put Donald Trump in the same boat as the "bookies." Most bookies handle bets that are not legal in casinos. The bookies are along the same line as criminals. Their form of gambling is not legal. Donald Trump is a business man, he built a casino that people come visit, not just people with gambling problems.  You can't lose your life if you refuse to go to a casino, but if you refuse to pay a bookie, you might not walk again.

The casino industry is a voluntary business. They don't force you to come and play.

  4. I don't think so in my honest opinion. Some people believe that it  creates addictions, but like everything in life self-control is the main key. Too much of it, is bad.

Another example, If one goes to a bar every night for years and spends a fortune in drinks, eventually will become alcoholic and broke. Is it the bar to be blamed?

    Overuse turns to addiction.

A casino must be seen only as an alternative way of entertainment and not as an income resource or a 'come-back' after a loss from last night. Those who have not understood this basic rule suffer and risk of ruinning their lives.

  5. I don't know where you live....but the slot machines in bars, airports, even gas stations and grocery stores are still alive and well here in Vegas.
