Will cats remember you if you leave for years and come back?

Question

I'm just wondering. Say, you live with the cat for 1 1/2-2 years.

I'm not planning on doing this haha, I love my cats. When I was gone for 3 1/2 days I kept on thinking of my cute cats and I missed them :(. And I even had a dream about them.

Will they?

yes they will remember you and be over the moon to see you,and probably slap you with their paws across your face for leaving them for so long.

I had a cat for 6 to 8 years and lost her.  I looked for her all over the place. I was sure a snake had got her and she had gone off to die, Then one year later i saw her 10 kms from my home, very skinny and scared, i stopped my car and it took me half an hour to get her. This cat had never forgotten me she wanted to come when i called her but at first she was unsure, but when she finally came to me i knew it was her and she knew me. She never went near a car again or out of the yard. She lived to be very old. so yes cats do remember you if are absent for a year.

My parents got two cats a few months before I went overseas to live for a while when i was a teenager.  When I came back even though they were only kittens when I left they remembered me.

Actually yes, they will.  My Russian Blue knew when my son was about 1/2 mile away after he had been gone in the military for 18 months.  He was coming home to surprise me, but when Monster started to meow and go nuts and act the way he used to when my son came home from school, I knew he was close.  So not only did Monster know who my son was, he knew 5 minutes before he came through the door.
