Question:

Will changing my modem make my internet faster?

My internet service provider promised me 2megabytes/s download speed and we are getting a dismal 30Kilobytes! I think that the cause of the problem may be the modem as we are about 3 k's away from the nearest boradcasting thing.

However, if we get a new modem, will it make our internet faster? And will we have to change the current plan we are on? Thank for any answers

  1. yes it will.........i hope so,......dont change the current plan

  2. nope but changing your internet service to road runnner will (:

  3. I would ask your ISP before splashing out any extra cash...

It could be any one of a number of things that are causing the slow speeds. It's probably not the modem.  (Unless of course, you're using a dial-up modem & expecting broadband speed - then the modem would certainly be the problem)

  4. Is this a wireless modem? You may need to ask your ISP for solutions for signal strength (e.g Antennas)

Your modem is provided by your ISP. If you get another type of modem that is not certified by your ISP, it won't work as its not signed to use their network.

  5. No it wont make things any different. As long as u are able to get net ur modem is fine. Do mention ur internet type that is whether u r using DSL, dialup or Cable.

Since u mentioned distance i presume it is DSL. DSL definitely dependes on distance but there are other checks also that can be done so first mention ur internet type

  6. nop.......a modem or u can say a router....is only a divice to catch the enternet and send it to your computer.....change your internet connection

  7. fd

  8. It is just a bad modem my friend had the same problem

  9. I thinks internet providers are like politicians, they promise

you the world until you sign up then they don't

deliver....It's just the way it is..lol

  10. If the current modem capacity is already bigger than your ISP internet speed, so changing it will not have effect. You will need to call your ISP to settle this
