Luke 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

Luke 18:21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

Luke 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  1. If Christ were here now there is one thing he would not be -- a Christian.

  2. don't you know?  God is going to give them everything their hearts desire!  sell their stuff? heaven forbid!  how would they even begin to live?

most Christians pick and choose what they believe about the bible - this is one they love to forget.

  3. You certainly have a way with words.  WOW!  Just when I thought I heard it all, someone comes along and takes yet another Scripture, takes it totally out of it's contextual setting, and tries to build a doctrine for others that are not related to this passage!  WOW!  I give you an "E" for effort (just barely above an "F", but below a "D"!)

  4. he spoke only to this rich young ruler who claimed he was doing all Jesus said.

Jesus knew he was not doing any of what he said.

How will we get into heaven?

Believe on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.

    There.  That was easy.

  5. All the christians will say im going to heaven. Who are they to decide thier fate. How do we even know they really believe in what they claim . only god know's what in the heart of man. He alone know's the fate of all being. And even if yu're better then a christian at doing good they say im still going to heaven and you're not. that's what pisses me off. What do they know...

  6. Only if heaven is real and if the Christians are good ones.

  7. If you read the rest of the Bible, and didn't just take that verse out of context, you would understand that the love of money that the rich ruler had was the problem, not the money itself. You can tell from his response that money was an idol he served more than God.

  8. That was Jesus's command to that ruler because he was rich and worshipped his money more then God.  God isn't making that demand of all Christians.

  9. St. Luke 18:27

The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

  10. Christians certainly exist - can't say the same about heaven....

  11. What cracks me up is the disappointment christians are in for when they croak.

  12. Christians are more closer to heaven than other religions.

    God Bless You.

  13. The point is the wealthy man counts more on his money than he does on God.

Now go read the parable of the widow who gave her last 2 cents.

  14. i can't answer that question. only God decides who gets into heaven, Christian or not. it all matters on how you live your life and what you do with your life. your best bet is to try to live like Jesus did. we can't be perfect but once we have eternal life it is perfection.

  15. I won't try ro explain the answer, but so you know, if He says how to get to a place doesn't that imply that there is such a place, and that you can get there?!

  16. Some of them might.

  17. Even on the slim possibility that the bible is somehow miraculously correct only 144,000 celibate jews are going to heaven any way...

Edit: I've read the whole d**n bible and this still means the same thing it did then, what in the **** is the right context?

  18. Heaven doesn't exist. So even if they did sell all their stuff, they still wouldn't get there.

  19. The pope is certain to find h**l since extreme wealth is now a sin.

  20. You are looking christians as people and heaven as a place... that is all wrong. Christian is an inner state of conscience very far from the ego and heaven is a radiation condition. If you really is a christian in this sense you are already in heaven.

  21. Everyone will get into Heaven. No exceptions!

  22. I don't believe in heaven

  23. The Bible cannot be taken at face value. It is a book of spirituality, not literal facts. You should maybe look up the Bible passages about how God is loving and forgiving. Almost all religions embrace the idea of giving up material objects and following God. What the Bible is saying is to give up you stuff and follow God in the sense that you need to not put things before God. You can have material things and still love God more than everything you own and care about people more that your stuff. That's what Jesus was getting at. God and others first, material objects later.

  24. YOU CAN'T DECIDE IF YOUR GOING TO HEAVEN OR NOT. ONLY GOD DECIDES WHETHER YOU'RE IN HEAVEN OR NOT. AM I WRONG PEOPLE?

  25. LOL

I knew when I read this someone would whine about "context" to avoid answering...so here it is IN context, and it STILL SAYS THE SAME THING:

18 Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”[a]

21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”

22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

23 But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

With God All Things Are Possible

24 And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

26 And those who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?”

27 But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

28 Then Peter said, “See, we have left all[b] and followed You.”

29 So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

  26. Romans 10:9

If you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you are saved.

Here is a definition of these verses.

    Luke 18:18

This religious leader sought reassurance, some way of knowing for sure that he had eternal life. He wanted Jesus to measure and grade his qualifications, or to give him some task he could do to assure his own immorality. So Jesus gave him a task--the one thing the religious leader felt he could not do. "Then how can anyone be saved?" the bystanders asked. "No one can, by his own achievements," Jesus answer implied. "But God can do what men can't."

Salvation cannot be earned. It is God's gift.

    Luke 18:19

Jesus' question to the religious leader who came and called Him "Good sir," was, in essence, "Do you know who I am?" Undoubtedly the religious leader did not catch the implications of Jesus' statement--that he was right in calling Him good, because Jesus truly is God.

    Luke 18:22,23

This man's wealth smoothed his life and gave him power and prestige. When Jesus told him to sell everything he owned, He was touching the man's very security. The man didn't understand that he would be even more secure if he followed Jesus than he was in all his wealth. Jesus does not ask all believers to sell everything they have, although this may be his will for some. He does ask us all, however, to get rid of anything that has become more important to us than God.

    Matthew 16:26

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

    Good question, but wrong thinking.

  27. From the Christian perspective I think in order to be a true Christian we will have to follow the words of the Lord Jesus Christ and sell all the worldly possessions.  We can not pick and choose which words of our Lord to follow.  Us true believers must follow all the words of our Lord.  Praise be unto Him.

  28. No. That answer was completely subjective. For that particular man Jesus told him what he needed to do. Perhaps that ruler was very rich and his wealth controlled him. It's different for every individual.

  29. So if you give up all your stuff to the poor, does that mean the poor then have to give it to someone else or else THEY don't get into heaven?  Doesn't that mean by giving your stuff to them, you are trying to bar them from getting into heaven?  Just an observation.

  30. if any christians decide to give away a 42" LCD TV, i need one for my master bedroom

  31. It's not  a general commandment it was a statement to one man concerning one instance. Jesus knew the man had not kept all the commandments but instead of confronting him on this he went straight to the one issue he knew the man could not lie about and would not bend upon - that being his wealth. It does not speak to giving up all you have but to placing all that you have in its proper perspective.
