I want to buy colored contacts from a girl in my school. She says they will only be 21 dollars. Should I buy them, cause i really want them. I don't have a prescription either. If so, what color should I get? I am semi dark African American. I'm thinking hazel.....

  1. Hello,

Make sure they have the same base curve, and if you have an astigmatism, you may want to make sure hers match, unless your eyes are spherical.  If they do, they shouldn't hurt your eyes, as long as you don't sleep in them all the time!

  2. Get them from an eye doctor. I used to wear contacts. I wore colored ones and they don't feel much different than regular ones.

You don't need an eye prescription that corrects vision for colored lenses but you should be fitted to get the right size for your eyes. Some places will let you get a pair for a discount if it is your first pair. Many states require a prescription for the plain color lenses too.

Not only that but they will teach you the proper way to take care of contacts. You will need cleaning solution, eye drops and the like. Not all contacts use the same solutions either. That is something the doctor will teach you.

I wouldn't buy them from a girl at school. The box may be expired or be an off brand. Not all contacts are the same. Go to a reputable place and buy them there.

You probably would look good in hazel. I loved the green ones. And if you get them at the doctor they can show you all the colors.

  3. That's fine if you want to get them, but don't buy them off of someone else. They probably don't wear the same size lens you do (or would),plus you could get a serious infection. If you do buy them,go to an eye care professional.

  4. I totally agree with d.  You only want to get contacts through a doctor.  There is a lot of evidence that contact switching and selling leads to eye infections.  New contacts that are specifically for you are definitely the best way to go.

  5. Colored contacts are good. They dont hurt at all. Get them. There cheap and good.

  6. I dont mean to be rude... but you are messing with your eyes! Might as well get a needle from her and shoot up as well!

DONT buy the contact lenses from, she is breaking the law AND SO ARE YOU (and besides you dont know what you are getting--they could be expired/rejects/not your fit)!!!  Contact lenses is FIRST medical device that requires a prescription to buy and sell, even for colored ones... I dont know your contact lens history but if you have NEVER worn contact lenses, you might run to serious problems if you dint know what you are doing.  YES, you can lose an eye from improper contact lens wear, rare but YOU CAN!

Go see an optometrist and get a proper assessment... its the SAFEST thing to do.... Is $21 really worth losing your eye sight?

  7. you should not buy them even if they are sealed. you have no way of knowing where they have been. viruses can be transmitted through contacts. you should think of them as any other prescription drug. they are FDA approved. i worked in an optometrist's office for a few years and trust me, it is easy to reseal opened contact cases. do not get them. it is highly unsafe. instead, go see an optometrist, who can order you anything you want. it will cost more money, but they will not give you anything that is dangerous to you. the assistants will also take the time to teach you to put them in, take them out, and clean them. if extra time is needed with you, they will gladly give it. please do not purchase those lenses.

  8. Don't buy contacts from anyone other than an eyecare professional. Popular misconception on this site is that contacts are universal and one size fits all. Not the case, you can do some serious damage to your cornea by wearing contacts that were not fit for you specifically. Even if they are non-prescription contacts they still need to be fit by a professional. Your cornea has a certain curvature that has to be measured and then translated into a base curve for contacts that will be best suited for you. You will also receive instructions on how to put them in, take them out and clean them to prevent infection.

  9. They certainly can...my eyes are weird, but the colored contacts are more wet than the ones I normally wear and they bothered me terribly.  I could feel them there all the time and they did hurt.

  10. No, they won't hurt your eyes if you get them from a doctor.

Buying them off the street, yes. You don't know where they came from, you don't know what kind you need, what size, etc. Do you want to end up blind or with a terrible eye infection?

You get what you pay for and you're paying for an eye infection or worse.
