  1. i dont think thye should lower standards just so we can have more poorly trained staff.

they should help out with tuition if anything ...

  2. While Congress can surely promote the acquisition of nursing degrees, many of the factors affecting the lack of nurses coming out of school are really outside their purview.  For example, there is a lack of nursing professors to teach students, there are fewer people actually going into nursing, the average nurse is actually older today than say ten years ago (meaning the shortage will get worse as all the nurses retiring won't get replaced), pay scales need to be updated, working conditions can be stressful.

Finally, some of the steps taken by Congress may hurt the world shortage while helping the US (making it easier for licensed/registered nurses to emigrate to the US will draw nurses here but leave larger shortages where they come from).

To alleviate the shortage will require a multi-pronged approach that will have to include hospitals, doctors, schools, and other health organizations (unions, etc.).

  3. This current nursing shortage also applies to nurse educators and instructors.  We need nurses with advanced degrees to teach the students and to accompany them into the clinical setting.

Next, you need to understand that there is more to being a nurse than caring about people or being a people person.  You need to be a good student with some scientific and mathematical inclination.  If you havent demonstrated enough aptitude to pass the required courses, you certainly arent going to pass your boards and become a nurse.

  4. Not unless they can do something to force schools into creating more physical class space including simulation labs, force more nurses into becoming educators, force hospitals to (unsafely) take on more students for clinical requirements, and bribe more young people into the profession.

That seems too big a job for congress or any law/s.

  5. The nursing professionals with masters or PhDs can get much more money with limited threat to their license in administration then accepting a job as a teacher and taking students to a hospital and being professionally responsible for 10 people at one time.  I have two of my former instructors working with me on their vacations and weekends on the floor to help make ends meet.  They have master degrees and I have an associates.

You cannot teach without teachers, and bless them, I wouldn't do it for what little they get paid.
