My brother and I are flying alone next week. And since he's 13 and I'm 15, we don't have any state issued ID such as a drivers license. We would use our school ID, but it only has our grade, the year the card was issued, our name, and the name of our school (and our picture, of course). So we were wondering if we could use copies of our birth certificates. Will that work? If it doesn't, what will work?

  1. if it has your grade, the im sure that they can work out what year you were born in....

you shouldnt need your ID...school ID will be fine, but they wont ask for it.

  2. You guys probably dont need to bring your birth certificates since one of your parents has to check in with you and walk you guys to security. Then the airline would know that you guys are flying with them and they probably will have a flight attendant or an employee from the airline to help you guys out along the way.

I would suggest brining your school IDs though because it is good to have some kind of photo ID with you and remember, if you have questions or need help, ask airport employees, airline employees and/or security officers.

  3. According to the TSA website, children under the age of 18 are not required to have ID.

You should have an adult with ID check you in with the airline and walk with you to security. Best is a parent or guardian.

Do get to the airport two (2) full hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.  That will give you time to deal with any delays.

Hope you have a good flight!

  4. I suggest you call the airline directly and ask.  My guess is that those will NOT suffice because you need a picture ID.  Birth certificates don't have pictures.  You might want to go to your local DMV and get IDs made.

  5. As unaccompanied minors, you will need proof of age.  And no, a copy of your birth certificate will not suffice; you need the original or a certified state-issued copy.

  6. What is wrong with going into your local driver's license place and GETTING A STATE ISSUED PHOTO ID?... It takes about 30 MINUTES... and if you have the CERTIFIED COPY of your birth certificate that is all you need... but it has to be a STATE CERTIFIED COPY... they will NOT accept just a plain copy... you DO know that... right?

The LAW about identity cards for airplane travel is GOVERNMENT ISSUED PHOTO ID CARDS... that is in the LAW... and the last time I looked, even CERTIFIED COPIES of your birth certificate were not PHOTO ID's

It's THEIR game.. and if you plan to travel, you have to play THEIR game, THEIR way... When they shake down old women and strip search BABIES and refuse them transportation because they don't have photo ID... then why do you think they are going to let you do it YOUR way?

  7. hi you

yes it will do just fine and in fact i think your school id will do to
