I was watching this show called "Locked Up Abroad" on the National Geographic Channel. Some of these criminals are so stupid and show no respect of being a guest in another country. Will a U.S. citizen who committed a crime in another country (i.e. drug smuggling/possession) have to turn over their US passport once they arrive back to the U.S.? Will their prison sentence show up in a U.S. criminal background search?

  1. Yes.  Interpol

  2. I think it depends on the country and crimes involved.  If its a industrialized nation, then most likely yes.  A country we have diplomatic relations with, again most likely yes. If its a developing country or a country we have no relations with, maybe, maybe not. The State Department and a lawyer who specializes in this should be able to tell you one way or another.

  3. Yes
