I want to be able to turn off my speakers remotely and saw a surge protector (Belkin’s Conserve Surge Protector) that will allow me to do this. It has a remote control with an on/off switch that cuts power to 4 of the outlets. I wanted to find out whether cutting power to my computer speakers while they are still on will damage them before I proceed. Anyone know?

  1. Your speakers will be fine.  Killing the speaker by unplugging them is no different than flipping the proper switch.  They both open a connection thus removing power.

  2. YES DONT DO IT MAN YOU WILL FRY THE MOTHERBOARD AND PROCESSOR !?!?!

  3. You can do this but do make sure the spk volume is at it lowest before turn the power on/off.

The surge protector is usually useful for to protect the instrument from external surge as well as internal surge if the power line is connected to high current equipment. No harm to use it on your powered speaker but may not be necessary useful.
