Will dealerships offer even trades?

I just bought a 96 ford explorer xlt, from a guy for only two hundred dollars to find out that it is worth $1455 for trade-in or $2100 for retail value, I want a smaller vehicle (sedan) will dealerships take an even trade for another vehicle?

  1. not unless the car you are buying is worth less than your trade in.


  2. There is no way a dealership will even trade. Unless of course you are trading in a car thats worth at least 3 times as much as the one you are getting from them. They wont trade you even. In other words if your car is worth 1500 they will not trade you for another 1500 dollar car. They will stick you with a 500 dollar car and make you think you got a great deal-until it breaks down on you the next day and then you are stuck.

    Best bet-try to sell the truck and then buy what it is you are wanting. But if you got that truck for only 200 dollars i would get rid of it quick and get whatever you can out of it because their must be something serious wrong with it for it to go that cheap. There just has to be.  

  3. Listen, use ebay!

    The listing is relatively inexpensive and make sure to state "pick-up only" concerning sale of vehicle.

    Avoid the dealership, every salesman/woman are evil, all they care about is money.


  4. not usually.  and right now moving that truck at all will be near impossible.
