  1. DirectX10 is an exclusive for Windows Vista.

However, there is a Dx10 emulation program that allows you to use DX10 on Windows XP. It's called the "Alky Project" (aka Falling Leaf). It never came out of the Alpha stages of development, so expect some bugginess.

  2. Nope!  Microsoft will not allow DX 10 to work in XP Pro.  This is one of the marketing gimicks Microsoft has used to get people to upgrade to Vista.  And from everything I have read, DX 10 does NOT live up to performance standards.  It has not added anything really significant, and the SDK has actually DISABLED SOME OF THE FUNCTIONS in DX 9.0C!!!!!!!!!!   So if I were you, don't be too crazy about the idea of DX 10.  Talk to some Vista users and find out their opinion...I bet they tell you there isn't really anything to DX 10 and it hasn't done them any big favors.  Microsoft screwed up AGAIN!  This time, with a lousy version of DX.

  3. DX 10 is Vista specific, there is no DX 10 in XP. DX 10 in general is slower than DX 9 but looks better.
