    You have to weigh the benefits against the risks. This medication is in the same family as tetracycline which WAS responsible for discolouration. However, this discolouration happened when the tooth buds for adult teeth were forming when the patient was very young. You are a young adult and there shouldn't be a problem. I would be more concerned about other ramifications of long-term usage, i.e., speak with your doctor and dentist.

    Do not use doxycycline if you are pregnant. It is not used for children younger than age 9 because it may stain their teeth.
