Will employment insurance cover my trip to the dentist?

I am on EI and need to see a dentist and obviously can't afford it, will they cover it?

  1. Hmm..

    The Employment Insurance (EI) program provides temporary income support to those who are between jobs; cannot work for reasons of sickness, childbirth, or parenting; or who are providing care or support to a family member who is gravely ill with a significant risk of death. So, it doesn't cover the medical cost, it just ensure that you will have the same income/salary although you leave your work for a while.

    However, some of the EI is mix with health insurance that may or may not cover your trip to the dentist. You need to check it out at your Human Resources Department or to the Insurance Company.

    My guess is that no, it is not covered unless the reason why you are on it includes broken or injured teeth/jaw.  For instance, getting hit at work with a machine in the jaw would include dental care. Getting hit in the foot would not.
