Will everything be closed in Germany (Munich) on Dec. 26th?

I've spent the 26th in Italy before and nearly everything was closed. Does the same happen in Germany? I believe it's a national holiday there as well.

(will it be worthwhile to visit the 26th? What is the last day of Christmas markets? the 24th?)

  1. it´s a holiday, yea.

  2. we start Christmas Midday Dec 24th, that is when most things close and as the 25th and 26th are holidays everything remains closed.

Christmas markets usually close a day or two b4 Christmas, but every market is different.

Have a wful time on good old Germany

  3. That will still be part of a national famous holiday.  Many major things will be shut down.

  4. I made the mistake of visiting Munich during that time. Everything closed around 1pm on the 24th, and nothing opened back up until the 27th or so. Even the hotel we stayed in didn't clean the room on the 24th or 25th. I remember that Dachau was open for tours on the 26th. And Jewish restaurants are open if you need somewhere to go and eat. Also the churches are open, so you can still do some sightseeing.

  5. The 26th is the second day of Christmas, when you travel to visit family, and if I remember correctly everything was closed.  Also, everything closed early on the 24th - around 2 pm.  The last day of the Christmas market is the 24th, but I think they close earlier then, too.  Try to make it at least on the 23rd, they're amazing at night.

  6. On the 24th of December most shops are open until noon, maybe a bit longer in the afternoon. On the evening of the 24th the families gather and exchange gifts etc.

The 25th and 26th are national holidays in Germany, so like on every holiday or Sunday, EVERYTHING will be closed. Well, apart from a couple of restaurants and bars or clubs. But you won't be able to go shopping on that day. I don't think museums are open etc.

I don't think it willb e worthwhile to visit Germany on the 26th. Maybe if you are interested in cultural events, classical concerts etc. But it will be a very slow day, not very exciting for tourists.

Christmas markets are usually open until noon on 24th and then close. However, you should go before 24th, because many vendors there close early or don't even open on 24th anymore.

If you want to travel to Munich on that day, let me know. Since I live in Munich, I could try to find out, whether the places you want to go to are open on the 26th.

  7. DEC 26th is the Second Day of Christmas...yes both the 25th and the 26th are holidays.....and FYI...they also celebrate two days of Easter...both the Sunday and the following Monday.

  8. It's a holiday, the shops are closed. But most of the bars, restaurants will be open.

Christmas markets usually won't be open on the 26th, for christmas day (the 24th) is the last day.

But Munich is worth a journey anyway!

  9. 26th of december is a national holiday in germany, so shops and supermarkets will be closed while restaurants and bars are usually open (like on all holidays and sundays).

If you want to see christmas markets you'd better go to one BEFORE 24th because a lot of vendors don't open again on that day (christmas eve is important in germany). 26th (second christmas day) might be boring for tourists if they're staying on their own.

  10. yes,   stores,  will  be  closed.

Christmas markets'  closing  days  vary!  look  where  you  are  going  to  be  and  check  it  out!

  11. Yes. It is a public holiday and all the shops are closed. On the 24th some shops will be open until 4 pm.

  12. Greetings from Bavaria.

26th almost erverything is closed here exactly like it is in Italy.

24th. is the last day of our Christmas markets, but on this day it is very stressfull being there and it is only opend till the early afternoon (about 1 or 2 o`clock). If you wann enjoy it,you shoud go some days earlier.

We are celebrating Christmas on 24th,25th and 26th.
