Question:

Will exposed 35mm film be damaged if it is exposed to water?

My son dunked a roll of film into a can of water. My wife pulled it out right away, but we do not want to waste the money developing it if it is no good. Do you think it will be ok?

Thanks

  1. Take it in and let them try. Chances are no harm was done if it was immersed as briefly as you say.

  2. By now, the wet emulsion will probably have stuck together by now.

You can take it in and see ... if they cannot get it into the processor, then you will know ... right now all you know is to keep your film in the little canister it came in.

If they cannot develop it, they will tell you and will not charge you just to check it out.  If it can be loaded, then the water didn't damage the emulsion....

If the images are super important there may be a way to "unstick" the emulsion, but that would take some time, the proper custom lab and a lot  of money with no guarantees..
