  1. Some analysts have estimated that gas prices will have doubled from where they are now, by 2012.

In the short term, prices will probably drop off somewhat in Fall, but then rise again in Winter.

  2. Yes until everyone is using Electric cars, then they will tax them to ****.

Diesel should be cheaper than unleaded but its not, as our government caught on that more people were buying diesel cars to save money !

  3. We are at a point where global oil supplies can no longer support global demand. To understand the problem; you must first separate the politics of the industry. We live in a world that is addicted to petroleum. Globally, we are consuming at a rate of 84,000,000 barrels/day. These is an arguable theory known as "Peak Oil;" this is where world oil supplies resemble a bell curve. Many analysists feel that global oil production has peaked and we are currently on the downside of the production curve. That said, due to economic booms in China, India, and the Middle East, world demand continues to increase. It is simple economics, demand is rising while supplies are slowly falling. Please do not misinterpurate my response that the planet is running out of oil; we are just running out of crude that is readily accessable and consuming faster than production. The politics make this plight even more complicated. When you hear about offshore drilling and Alaska; do not be fooled. It would be ten years before one drop of crude from those areas would make it to the pumps (do to infastructure construction times). Also, even IF we were able to get oil flowing from those places; by most estimates, it would only last a few years (at our present rate of consumption). Finally, with the US economy in a slump, our dollar is worth less globally...thus, we can compete less effciently in world crude trading versus other countries that want the same oil. Hope this helps. To answer your question; unfortunately. high gas prices are here to stay.

  4. They will continue to rise.  We all have to get used to it.

    Greed is causing it.

  5. Yes until we riot, destroy the capitalist system and create a socialist government. :) I'm sure this won't get anyone upset and get them to say mean things about me. Love YA!

  6. Yes, It will for one of many reasons. first, Oil is proced in dollars as the U.S. dollars weakens this causes inflation and oil becomes more EXPENSIVE for the U. S. consumer. Also a weak dollar also makes financial instruments such as bonds and treasury notes less attractive as they pay LOWER yields adjusted to inflation

  7. None of the answers so far address the trend specifically over the last few years. Oil companies are posting record profits while consumers continue to pay more at the pump. It doesn't add up! It doesn't cost more to manufacture and I don't believe that we've consumed that much more oil in the last few years. The only thing that has changed, in my opinion, is that we are seeing more alternatives...and instead of prices dropping, we are seeing them increase. I swear it's a conspiracy and consumers are intentionally being kept in the dark. Would someone please give me an answer that makes sense? If I'm going to be screwed at the pump, I'd at least like to know who's doing the s******g.

  8. I can't tell you specifics because I'm not an economist or an oil guru, but I do know what resources are, and oil is not a renewable resource. There is a limited supply of oil in the world and it is often dangerous to our planet to drill for it. Most of the oil we get comes from the Middle East where they are not too happy with us. So in the long run, the cost of oil can only go up as it gets sparser and we continue to war with the Middle Eastern countries.

The cost may go down again, and it may go up again, but I can promise you that in ten years it will cost more than it costs now. If you are concerned about rising gas prices, try to do something to help find an alternative fuel. I personally support ethanol made from hemp, or electric cars (but then we have to solve the energy crisis...) And in the meantime, you can cut the cost of gas by riding a bike, walking, riding the bus/other public transportation, or car pooling.

  9. opec nations are sc rewing us! gas prices in mexico (not an opec nation) are only $2 dollars a gallon! does this make any sense? we have been brainwashed into thinking that the only  solution to transportation is our big cars! we need to convert to electric as soon as possible! we (u.s.) has become a nation of gasaholics!-blurey
