Will generation x succeed?

the baby boomers, those born in the 50s/early 60s are nearing their retirement. it's time for my generation, dubbed by the media as generation x, to take over running this planet's governments and corporations. i remember when i was young we were always complaining about how our elders were making irresponsible decisions what with all the war/poverty/environmental abuse going on and talked about how we wil make things right. our generation, taught with messages of peace/harmony/tolerance by artists such as john lennon, u2, pearl jam, green day, etc. is finally going to get our turn to try to make this world a better place. however some of my peers who have already ascended to managerial/leadership levels, seem to be falling into the same behavior and decisions that the previous generation have made. are we just in a vicious cycle? will there never be change? will generation x not realize the ideals of our youth of having a peaceful, harmonious excistence? will generation x fail?

  1. I wouldn't worry about Gen X. It's the generation of kids that had it all handed to them and then chose to repay kindness by beginning with school shootings and turning their parents into the law for not doing as they wished. This is the same generation that has an excuse for their problems because they're too stupid to admit their mistakes so they choose to blame inanimate objects like video games, movies, or television.

  2. I am an old hippie and my generation knew the dangers of the future and yet we were not  the ones to make the changes...hope you are

  3. Generations have been repeating mistakes of it's predecessors for all of recorded history. The so called greatest generation put us where we stand today with the biggest threat facing our world...Global Warming. The question really isn't can we avoid being hypocrites, but can we do the things necessary to save our skin as a collective world. Every cycle has the chance to end, the question is, do we have the energy change direction?

  4. If, being grown up on TV videogames, hamburgers, idiotic music, & probably being handed money from parents daily, can be credited for, then yes. That`s this generations only assets.

  5. I believe not. The reality is that you cannot "build" a better future. You cannot "fight" for piece. Technology is unsustainable, it can only solve problems by creating others - nuclear power anyone? More systems mean more employment, more money so a greater ability to consume.

Politicians and world leaders are smart, they avoid words like better and instead use "change", avoid beat and use "tackle"

We will change the way our schools work

We will change our international policies

    We will tackle climate change

    We will tackle world poverty.

Because the truth is the future is in the past, the sustainable world has been and gone. Tolerance and understanding have been beaten by genocide, invasion, slavery and greed. Only by going backwards, getting rid of world markets, living off the land and dropping systems built upon consumption can humans have a future but nobody will ever get into power by saying "let's go backwards". Only a few individuals are comfortable to be "left behind" and accept what they have now.

Generation X can only do what generations before them have done, albeit with better technology, more complicated systems of law and finance, and advances in communications.

Tackle problems and fight for change.
