Question:

Will getting injections during Ramadan constitute breaking a fast

I should not (and was recommended that I surely not) fast due to health reasons, but I wonder how other diabetics who require insulin throughout the day handle this. I *may* try to fast a day or two this Ramadan, but I will very closely monitor my glucose and will break my fast at the first sign of trouble. Does anybody have any thoughts on this??

  1. i looked into different fatwa sites in arabic

and insulin injections does not break the fast

to my knowledge, the injections that break the fast are the ones that gives food through the blood (like glocos)

in general, if fasting causing a harm to you or a risk, then you shold not fast and you feed one poor (a meal) for every day

  2. Yes, Getting an injection will break your fast. Also going to the dentist..

    ----

Okay, I have officially caught the thumbs down virus.

  3. Insulin injections taken by a diabetic do not invalidate the fast

There is a man who has diabetes, and he has subcutaneous injections. If he does not take this injection his blood sugar levels will rise. Is it permissible for him to take these injections during the month of Ramadaan?.

    Praise be to Allaah.

There is nothing wrong with you taking these injections during the day for the purpose of medical treatment, and you do not have to make up those fasts. If you can take them at night without that causing you any hardship, that is better.

And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.

sister if u need more evidence for this then please search them on Islam Q and A. I would have done it for you, but sister i need to prepare for my Arabic test, so am not able to help you yet.

  4. Taking injuction will not constitute breaking a fast.  But, you should not consume tablets.  Fast is broken only by consuming anything through the open body parts i.e., ear, mouth, nose, a**s etc.

You are really intelligent because you have opted Islam after learning about it.  Allah shows right path to those He choose.

  5. just covert to the correct religion

    Christianity

  6. If you die think of all the fun you will have with the virgins!

  7. The concept of Ramadan is to make you more mindful of others (that's a huge simplification).  By fasting, you give the money you would have spent on food and give that to those in need (or charity to get it to those in need). There's the spiritual aspect that I won't touch but, suffice to say:  fasting can be something other than just eating only when the sun is down.

If you are determined to do it, all the 'experts' say to talk with your doctor.

In the last 'source' article - look at some of the feedback in the "Talk about it" section (right hand side).

I would encourage you to 'fast' in a way that is challenging but not putting yourself at huge risk.

  8. A diabetic should NOT FAST.  It is not a religious problem, but a medical condition. PLEASE do not jeapordize your life by such behavior!  No god in any religion asks that of the faithful.

  9. I dont have any particular thoughts about this, but I found out these:

    Quote from above link:-

    Q. Is it permissible to take an injection while fasting and does that nullify the fast?

    A. It is permissible to take an injection during fasting. The injection does not nullify the fast. (Ahsanul Fataawa vol.4 pg.432) And Allah Ta'ala KnowsBest. [Mufti Ebrahim Desai]

  10. I'm thinking its ok.

I tend not to keep track on rulings like this since i'm not diabetic......but the patch is ok (for smokers), and insulin is a bit more legitimate than the patch, so i think one can say insulin doesn't break the fast.

  12. Actually Insulin injections were not invented at the time when the rules of fasting were made, hence, all are in doubt in answering and has to follow the religious heads elected by ourselves and have to decide what is right and wrong using our common sense.

Allah knows you are fasting as true muslim

For example, the other day someone asked a question "whether singing was allowed",  Singing maybe the only source of decent earnings for this person but as per Islamic rules it was not allowed.

We live in a modern society and may have to alter rules sometimes to adjust to old Islamic ways.

I know I will be flaged down by some but deep down you  know I am right.

  13. I am not Islam but I can not see how this would be considered wrong in any religion.  If your heart is truly devoted then God,Allah,Buddah will understand the need for medical care.

  14. Sis, i have diabetes too, not that bad that i do have to use insulin, pills keep it under control. I tried to fast last year (was monitored by my doctor who told me to give it a go) but i did get in problems already the first day after 6 hours or so....... i was so disappointed, but health comes first sis. You can make up for not fasting by feeding a poor person or a person in need every day during Ramadan instead, so that's what i did.

If i'm not mistaken you take the insulin injection just before you eat something. I won't do to take it and fast after that right?

So technically maybe the injection would not break your fast, but you'd have to eat shortly after taking the injection. (That was the case with my dad anyways).

I would consult my doctor in your case. Let him be the judge, he knows best about your health!

I'm gonna try again this year.... my doctor ok'ed it cause i did eat last year when i started to get into trouble. Inshallah this year will go better.
