Question:

Will getting married while filing chapter 7, post filing, have any effect on the discharge?

My attorney says it shouldnt, and to stop worrying so much. Im not 100% comfortable with "shouldnt" so I was hoping to catch someone who may have had this experience.....or knows someone that went through it.

What your attorney means is.....you file before you get married.....your bankruptcy status is based on the day you file...you won't be getting married the day you file and get a case#, so it's based on your actual day you file. Whether or not you marry, the day after, two week later, or a month later, it goes by the day you actually file. Good Luck and Hope that helped ease a little stress...Get married and enjoy life!!!

  3. As long as you do not live in a community property State you should be fine.

    They are AZ, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA & WI.
