My cat has 7 week old kittens and I think she got pregnant again last night. I caught her mating with our tom cat last night and I was wondering if I got her spayed right away would it stop her from having kittens again?

  1. Take her to the vet to be examined. Absolutely do not have them aborted! Why would you have innocent kittens killed when you can give them away to good homes after they are weened?  Or if you can't find a home take them to a no-kill shelter and they will have them adopted out. After they are born you can have her spayed almost immediately. It's not good for the mother or the kittens. Have the vet examine her and see if she is pregnant. If not then go ahead but it's not like they have a long gestation period if she is.  And not to be rude but the people answering here are talking like a cat having babies is like a disease? I am all for spaying and neutering (both of my males are neutered) but birth is a beautiful thing and does not hurt the cat. Plus by the time these ones are born the others could have already been given away or adopted out to loving homes.

  2. yes....you can take her and they will clean her out also. Like a animal abortion. You cant wait too long or they wont be able to do that.

  3. Yes, please spay your cat. Its never too late unless the cat is pregnant.

  4. yes if you do it in the next few days, before the foetes have chance to form

  5. Yes, that can be done.  The sooner the better.

  6. Yes.

And the male needs to be neutered to prevent other cats from getting pregnant as well.

And, all your cats should be kept inside, if they aren't already.

  7. Take her to the vet ASAP. If she did get pregnant again the sooner the better for her to get spayed. It cost more if she is in heat or pregnant so tell the staff at the vets office when you call for an appt. It is also safer to do it ASAP for the cats sake.

  8. Get her spayed ASAP.  Explain to the vet she might be pregnant, and that she needs to get in right away.  If they can't see her soon enough, call your local shelters and see if they have some sort of spay/neuter program.  They don't have the "issues" with spaying pregnant cats that many private practice vets do, as they are the ones that have to euthanize all the lovely, healthy kittens that they just don't have space to hold.  Make an appointment for your male as well, then your worries about unplanned pregnancy will be gone.

And Tygerlilly - I hate to burst your bubble, but this time of the year the no-kill shelters are full to bursting, and generally turn down animals.  That's how they stay no-kill - by not taking in the animals when they no longer have space.  While birth is a lovely thing, euthanizing already-born kittens and cats due to lack of  space, money, and homes is not a beautiful thing.  While it's a tough choice, I say spay the pregnant cat, and give a chance to the already-born kittens in the shelters.

  9. YES!

  10. Yes. That's the idea.
