Will going a week without running effect my running very much when I start again?

I'm going to camp for a week and I will not be able to run (Don't say I should ask if I can run because I CANNOT run at camp, I'm waaay to busy.) Will this effect me very much? I'm in training for cross country and don't want to lose all that I've built up for.

  1. I agree you will.  I was well into the season in track and fell ill.  Even when i was in a great shape, after 5 days of not running, i got crazy cramps, and i got tired more quickly when I returned.

  2. yeah, you will lose a lot. Basically all of your training. They say that your training is completely gone by 2 weeks for sure, but it usually is shorter. If you really are serious about running you would run at camp. Just wake up earlier. some of my team mates had to wake up at 5:30 at camp in order to run.

  3. It will definitely effect you. I took a week off from my xc training, and my first run back just felt akward. My form was off and it was a harder run than it normally would be. It'll take a little bit for your body to get back into, but i've been running constantly all summer, so it only took a few days for me to get back into the rythym, but i lost some of my speed. It depends on how long it will take you to get back to your regular speed by how much you've been running. Like someone else said on here before, you should wake up early to do a quick run, even if it's only a mile, because you'll still be in shape. Or try a night run if it's not too late.

  4. If you have been training right along and consistently, no, a week off will not affect you much. Your first run might feel a little weird, but you'll bounce right back.

  5. If you've been running for a while and are in shape, it won't effect you in a bad way. It will just give your mucsles some rest time. If you can do your regular stretches as if you were going to run.

  6. Im sorry to say that going a week without running will affect your time. Most likely when you get back from camp your legs will feel a little sluggish from the break. But more importantly your lungs will not be able to take the normal beating after a period even as short as a week. You will definitly feel a pang in your chest while running. Dont worry though, it may only take a few days to recover back to normal.
