I bought a guinea pig, went back to get another and the lady there told me that they had no more from that batch and that if i bought another from the new shipment they had that they would kill each other. Is this true?

  1. no

they might not get along but they won't kill each other. If they are both males they are more likely to fight but i still don't believe that they will kill eachother

    :)

  2. no

    ...

  3. no. If you have boys they may fight if there is not enough room. Petstores are stupid when it comes to taking care of animals. They hire people my age, I'm 19, and tell them what to say. Most just go along with that, while some, like me chose to find out the truth. I wouldnt go to a petstore for information. Thats like going to mars candy for medical advice.

Try going to a shelter and adopting a piggy. Most shelters dont know about them, so make sure you can tell if its a female or male. If it is the same s*x as your piggy, then go ahead with the adoption. Introductions should be done in a neutral area. before any introduction quarintine the new piggy for a good three weeks to make sure the piggy hasnt brough something home along with him. If you adopt from a rescue you can typically avoid a quarintine.

To avoid as many fights as possible, assuming you have a boy, make sure the space is bigger than it is now when you put the new piggy in, and get two bowls, two water bottles, etc. to avoid fights over territory.

To make your piggy happier try building a bigger cage than the petstore cage. www.guineapigcages.com can help you find materials or you can order a cage.

If you have a girl and want another girl, dont worry about them fighting. I have always had succes with putting girls together. I currently have 11 girls in a group while I have had only one success with the boys. I only have 7 boys and the cage is the same size as the girls because most are housed seperately.

  4. no its not.

my guinea pigs are all from different batches, ranging from 5years to 5 months and they all get on fine.

  5. Not ususlly. There is always a chance that when you put two animals together that they will fight. Guinae pigs are pack animals they like to be in groups so the chances of one killing the other is very slim. I have 3 all from different parents and they get along great.

  6. absolutly not. i have 2 males that are about 2mo aprt in age from completely differnt parents and they get along just fine. its all about how u introduce them. basicly just take it slow and watch them closely

  7. probably not

  8. no

  9. if one is agrsive then it might hurt you (like bite u) or attack the other guinea pig but it shouldnt kill it
