Question:

Will gymnastics improve my ice skating?

i havent been skating for long like-a bit more than a month but im up to free jump and i can do pivots backward x overs and yeh but i really really love the sport and i wanna get alot better so if i take up acro or gymnastics will it help me improve my flexibility and later on improve my ice skating?

  1. Yes gymnastics will help heaps with flexibility, strength and balance. I think you will find you get a lot better faster and you will move up the levels quickly. Good Luck!

  5. Yes it will help a lot. It will help with your flexibility and strength. If you really want to help your skating i would sugest ballet. It is great off ice training.

  7. yes gymnastics does help! i used to do both gymnastics and figure skating. gymnastics helps with your flexibility and it strengthens your body, like ur stomach muscles, back muscles, everything overall.

  8. Well they will help with suppleness.  Pilates and ballet should help with these too. Having said that I used to do Pilates and I still have the flexibility of a plank so maybe I'm getting past it  ha ha ;-)

Gymnastics will help towards the skating giving you strength and core stability, also ballet, and horse riding as riding helps keep you up straight and balance which is ideal for skating. one of the best things are yoga and pilates as we had this for off ice all the time to help with strength and balance.  maybe invest into 121 lessons to improve faster.

  14. learn to skate  and learn to skate well then yes by all means go for the gymnastics ... gymnastics will help you to improve your balance, learn where your body is at all times, and totally give you the flex ability you will need and its fun.. as well as will get you in to and keep you in shape.... skating is a powerful sport and then need for the extra strength and power will come when you train.. gymnastic will give you the extra power you will need.

    also ballet is a good thing to get into to teach gracefulness which is needed by skaters to look professional and balanced..
