  1. I didnt know it was socially unacceptable! I hang everything out in the summer time. When it is dry I throw it in the dryer on low for the shortest time along with a dryer sheet. That keeps my family from complaining their clothes feel "crunchy"

  2. I don't care how high the rates go, its faster to use a dryer

  3. hey don't knock hanging out the laundry there is no better smell than that of fresh hung laundry, hopefully these planned communities will start to allow people this freedom.

  4. who gives a **** about socially acceptable, hang the washing out, save the electricity and feel better about yourself.

this is our planet and unless you live somewhere incredibly cold or wet you shouldnt be using a dryer.

it is purely a modern convenience

and besides it smells better after being hung out in the fresh air!

  5. Absolutely - it will probably become the "cool" thing to do very soon.  There will be products that will make it easier to do this and to even make it look good.  Also, keep in mind, that another factor is gas rates - as many clothes dryers today are natural gas powered versus electricity.

  6. People still hang out the wash in the summer.  I still do.  Hang the undies inside though.

Dryers are more convenient and faster.

  7. I didn't know it was socially unacceptable.  If there are laws against something so common sense the laws need to change in addition to the social mores.  We live in a "neighborhood" that is off the grid.  Solar power is our only source of energy for us.  Our power bill is zero even when we run our "clothesline several times a day."  If an average power bill is $50 dollars a month we paid off our $5000 power system in 8.3 years .  We've had free power for 4 years and the batteries are still going strong.  We've got a plasma screen TV and watch netflix.  All the comforts.  But that is beside the point.  If you live in a neighborhood where you can't hang out the wash, not only are you harming the overall health of the planet, you are wasting your own money for no good reason.

  8. Yes. Once the worlds average IQ goes down to 30 like the Environmentalists.

  9. I hope so.  Not only do the clothes smell better, but they last longer.  I can't tell you how many things I lost when I had no clothesline and had to use a dryer.

These upscale neighborhoods will need to change their regulations against clotheslines.

Maybe there should be a tax incentive to doing so.  One year we were able to use our clothesline as a tax deduction, calling it a solar wind-powered clothes dryer, and got credit for it.
