Will having concrete rainwater tanks effect the ph of the water?

I measured the water (because we keep fish) and got a ph of 7.6.

Would pure rainwater normally be nuetral?

We have a painted concrete tile roof and concrete tanks although both would be 20+ years old. Could stuff be leaching out which would effect the quality of the water?

I live in Australia BTW on the outskirts of a city.

  1. acid rain affects ph

  2. "Pure" rain, even in the absence of acid pollution, is slightly acidic. Concrete contains lime, which would counteract this, and raise the pH.

  3. depends where u live if your in the bush away from pollution it's fairly pure not far from distilled water. If there is any sulphur dioxide in the air this produces H2S03 ( acid rain). Concrete tanks walls  will react with acid rain to produce Ca S03 & H2C02 ( soda water)
