  1. Hard question.

Seems odds are against him, but we don't know how fit he is, and the terrain he will be riding in.

So, he could have a slight chance. If he does: Congrats! on my behalf.

Now, I would tell him to find his rhythm, a sustainable pace for the whole distance. To take plenty of water with him, some nourishment, some sun protection. And then, to enjoy the ride.

    Hope he does well.

  2. I'd have to agree with the above poster. All I can recommend is not stopping - Therefore he WILL need a water bottle and an energy bar or something to keep him going, if he has only experienced 10 miles before.

    Wish him good luck.

  3. He can only if you beleive in him.

  4. soft saddles cause more sores,,, no pro has a soft saddle.  the squishy parts just rub more and cause more discomfort

but that has nothing to do with speed

  5. If he cycles regularly he should be able to do it easy.

  6. If he has only ridden 10 miles, then riding 30 miles in 90 minutes will be a stretch.  The saddle won't make him go faster, it's his biking ability and the bike that makes the speed.

  7. Not a chance. If his previous longest ride is 10 miles, he will not be able to keep up the pace required to do 30 miles in 90 minutes. He will likely be able to finish the course, but not in that amount of time.

  8. Saddle won't improve his time. But it's possible to do 30 miles in 90 minutes. That's doing 20mph.

  9. that would be a 20 mph average speed - not easy, but doable on flat roads by a seasoned cyclist.

so that would also probably mean no stopping, unless he's going to average 22+ mph..

good for him for trying, at least; but it sounds like a definite chalenge (which is why he's doing it!)

tell him the internet said "good luck!"
