them some?

And also will it not open the way for dodgey shop owners to "up" the price a bit as I thought the display was so you knew the cost?

  1. Putting 'gentlemen's magazines' on the top shelf didn't stop them wanting to buy them, did it ?

Anyway, if they at 'hip height', surely they'd be easier to nick ! It won't make any difference at all !

In Ireland you have to stand 10ft. from the pub door to have your ciggie, so when the Garda spotted a man having a smoke right outside the pub door he reminded him of the new law. The smoker said, " I know - I'm drinking in the pub over the road ! "

  2. Not where I live Elric....

  3. This will not do anything to prevent kids from badgering adults to buy them cigarettes.  The best way to prevent that is to look them in the eye and say go away.  In your own inimitable wording of course.

Hiding the cigarettes will make it easier to quit the habit.  (Out of sight, out of mind.)  Not much but its a step.

Wether or not they are visible, a shopkeeper can charge what he likes for his wares, so long as the price is clearly displayed.

  4. The Government may be tighteneing up on the sale of cigarettes to underage persons but taking them off the shelves is a disgrace , I'm a non-drinker but still have to see thousands of litres of the stuff on miles of shelves.

The Political Correctness of hitting the smoker , as a section of society , hard but only hit the drinker 'half-heartedly'.

Imagine going into a shop , with this new 'stigma' upon you , asking for 20 f**s from under the counter.

"Back to the Future" , or , Orwellian.

  5. No and the more expensive they get the more blackmarket they will become buying them in brown paper bags soon wink wink.

Kids always do this and for drink i just say no E.

  6. not at all

Kids ain't stupid, just because they can't see the cigarettes on display doesn't mean they won't know they're there

It drives me nuts being ambushed by a group of 14 year olds desperate to buy a cigarette off you a quid!

  7. Shop owners will probably take  a weekend trip abroad to buy cheap f**s then sell them to ANYONE from under the counter!

  8. This latest "idea" of our so called government reminds me of the war years when the black market flourished. Now I will have to go into a shop and whisper to the shop keeper "do you sell cigarettes"? What right do the government have to tell  what a shop keeper can display so long it is not offencive At the same time rake in the taxes that is piled on cigarettes I can buy a packet of B and H for £1 where I live. That means the British government are having the other £4 !!!  Yes £4 a packet of 20.

  9. Not in my neck of the woods it won't Elric !!

  10. Banning them altogether will

Put them all in a space shuttle, send them to the Delta Quadrant & phaser anyone who dares to make more of them

  11. a trick to catch the weak minded ones so many .First sell cheap and when subject get addicted sell high ( or black market) price !

  12. No, but fining those who do buy it for the kids, will!  Why do those who are old enough to know better, think it is okay to buy kids cigarettes and alcohol?

  13. The best seller?

    No.

    Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49

Will not solve the mess out there.

"If there's a will there's a way " to get hold of it.

    How?

    Don't ask?

Decode this lyrics ' Begin the begin"

    Luke 8.5-8,10-17

    Increase prices?

    Don't think so.

Stealing from the misery of the little ones.?

    Luke 9.25,55-56,60

    What do you think?

  14. Whoever thought up this idea is a Nincompoop.

  15. It will be as effective as hiding any drug. If people are addicted to anything, hiding it will not stop them from trying to obtain it.

  16. I agree with the price thing Elric and no it won't stop the kids, it'll just confuse the oldies who can't remember the brand name .......... longer queues lol !!

  17. The goverment are hideing the cigerettes but they are allowing the betting industry to advertise. What is the difference. They are still feeding off the poor.

  18. shall we all guess what Guy U's specialist publication is?

  19. obviously not. people will still know there are f**s there.

  20. As a smoker always trying to give up. I for one would appreciate boxes of f**s not being on display everytime I go to my local.  Its a trigger to start thinking about them .  So I think its a good idea

  21. Now my newsagent will only have to reach under the counter for my regular order of 40 B+H and a certain "specialist" publication.

  22. i don't think it will stop the kids asking...they are not as green as they are cabbage looking...even when i go to the shop, they are there asking me to get them alcoholic drinks...i always say no because if it was one of mine, i would expect who ever it was to refuse them, they are old enough to drink now, but if they were younger then i would hate some adult to go into a shop and buy them smokes and booze...kids know more than we think these days and they will know that there are a stash of smokes under the counter in the shops

  23. It is all getting a little daft if you ask me if people want to smoke they will what difference does it make if they are on a shelf or under the counter ?

  24. Not sure but I always say 'no' when they ask me to buy cigs for them.

  25. No, of course it won't.  They will still be aware of smoking.  Hiding them will probably just make it more appealing.

  26. Won't make any difference !

it is not advertising that makes kids smoke, kids do it to be cool and fit in with peer groups !

they always have and always will !

hiding the packs below the counter will not stop people buying them or make them give up ! it will probably entice smaller shops to sell contraband stuff alongside !  - bring it on !

on the flip side the price could go up because certain shopss get better discounts as they get paid for branding from the likes of imperial tobacco company (L&B)  inturn, without these discounts the shops will put the price up as they can't be as competitive!

    Winge over :)

  27. Totally agree with you Elric.

  28. No it won't help at all. Only a total ban would help.

  29. Sorry to say this but nothing is going to stop people from smoking until it's to late.
