Will higher octaine gas give more MPG?

  1. Nope.

    In short:

    Higher compression engines need the higher octane gas to run properly.

    Regular cars dont need the high octane gas, they do not benifit at all from that gas.

  3. Probably not, and certainly not enough to justify the higher cost.  Higher octane will make an engine designed for it run smoother but is just a waste of money on engines designed to run on regular gas.

  4. No... octane rating for gas has to do with the compression of your engine.

    Basically, unless your car specifically requires a higher octane gas, don't waste your money.  Normally it's only when you get into high performance that you start needing the higher octane and even then it's not a requirement because the mfg is trying to get you better fuel mileage.

  5. If the engine's computer can recognize the higer octane fuel and advance the spark plug firing, then yes, premium fuel will give you better fuel mileage.

    If the answer is no to the the first question, a higher octane fuel is simply a waste of money.
