Will homeowners insurace cover my computer and tv?

had a power surge and my computer and tv will not work. will my homeowners insurance cover this? both of these are less than six months old. or does my homeowners Insurance only cover it if it is stolen?

  1. It depends on the company you're insured with.  The company I write for would cover both items, but you'd be subject to your deductible (usually $500 or $1000).

    Homeowner's doesn't cover everything, but they cover a list of perils which includes theft, fire, wind and depending upon your state and company, possibly many other types of loss.  Call your company and ask if you'd be covered.  They may request that you update your electrical system after they pay for the damages though.


  2. If the surge was from your electric utility, you can file a claim with them.

  3. It should be covered, call your insurance agent.

  4. Depends on the type of policy but unless you have a really great policy power surges aren't usually covered and if they are you have to meet your deductible first.
