animals are being forced to survive with constant threats to their species, however the 1st world countries are not experiencing these threats so will humans(in the 1st world, as 3rd world countries are already experiencing this fight for survival) continue to evolve and change in the next few thousand/hundreds of thousands of years? write your opinion/answer.

  1. That's actually a very interesting question, because for humans the old "survival of the fittest" doesn't really apply anymore. It's much more along the lines of "Survival of nearly everyone". How many people alive today do you know of who have some sort of genetic condition that would mean they would be unable to live without medical treatment?

Also when you begin to realize that a lot of successful, smart, intelligent, people are having fewer kids, while lazy, stupid and poor people are having MORE kids.

Short of any huge natural or man made disaster killing most of us, I think our species will slowly become weaker as sicknesses and diseases become more common in the population, and humans will come to completely rely on medical technology to survive.

  2. There are new challenges that determine your success.  Heritable traits that enhance survival of your offspring will propagate over time.

  3. Certainly people will continue to evolve by natural selection.  A changing environment will force it.  One change that clearly forces natural selection is the presence of diseases that kill people before they can reproduce.  This puts selective pressure to develop resistance.  One example is the resistance to malaria for people who carry one copy of the gene for sickle cell disease.

Another example is the relative resistance Europeans have to the black plague that devastated Europe for three centuries.  New diseases, e.g., AIDS, will force evolutionary adaptations.

  4. We make buildings to control environment, so expect most of our evolutionary pressure to be social.

  5. I think that we will continue to evolve, but the changes will get less and less. Less people are dying due to medical technology. therefore, the genes of the people that should have died are still in the gene pool. except for the really stupid ones. See the site below.
