If an animal have to endure extreme changes in habitat or surroundings they take on rapid evolution because the weak die off and the rest persevere through protein miss fold and so on.

  1. That's a good question. First you have to accept the idea that "medicine" is getting better. And I have a couple problems with that. One we are to focused on curing disease, not preventing it. Also, that vast majority of people on this planet do not have access to even the most basic of health care, including many in our own country. Finally, and I'm playing devil's advocate here more people with physical and other disabilities are surviving longer and many of them are having children, and if the disabilities are genetic, there you go. I think our changes are going to come more from good science and research. I see no reason we can't survive and grow past many current killers. Thus said, I'd say we are evolving all the time, just to slowly to notice, but I bet if you could get a picture of modern man two, three thousand years ago and one today, you'd see differences. Height for instance,we are definitely taller.  Moth

  2. without extreme cases what you see so far as an evolutionary trend is called genetic drift, in which sexual selection and what not cause a more noticeable effect than natural selection.
