Since human evolution does not end and since we are still evolving.

Can humans possibly get faster than we are now?

  1. Evolving involves the better of the species living and the worse of the species dying out. Because we are not hunted and it doesn't matter what we are like any more, no matter what we are gunna live just as well as any one else. There for we are still evolving but much much slower than other animals. If any thing though we will get slower because we are exersizing less and less.

  2. I think that it is entirely possible for certain individuals to get faster and for scientific advances to allow us to be faster. But since physical speed is not a necessity for survival, I would have to say that as a species we will not get significantly faster.

  3. We will get faster, as you can see by all the records getting broken.

But there will be a point that humans get to that no one will be able to get any faster, because it's not like you can swim 50m in 1 sec.

    :)

  4. well you've just got to look at the fact the 100m world record keeps getting broken so maybe we are getting faster. im watchin the olympics now lol.

  5. No, I think we will get slower and lazier.

  6. There's no selective pressure upon speed in the human species so its unlikely. Slow humans have just as much chance to reproduce as fast ones so you won't have any evolutionary trends toward speed unless we genetically drift that way.

We can possibly attribute the speed records continuing to being broken to better training techniques, increased technology and medicine used in training, and other external factors.

One last bit, in the near future humans will possess the capability of manipulating and our genes and controlling our own evolution, that could be used to make someone faster. The problem with that is the question of whether it is ethical and moral to manipulate genes for gain.

  7. Agrees with **_**. Recent technology is making us lazy.

  8. I doubt it.  We don't need to run fast as we may once did.
