  1. Up until we are completely off fossil fuels on cars, yes slightly.  They aren't really sold in great enough quanities yet to really matter though.  After we have an alternative fuel source for cars, I don't know.  I doubt it unless they still need hybrids for heavy hailling or something.  I think that the more people that own hybrids though, the more the car companies will see that people are getting into environmental friendly cars.  Once they see that this is picking up (and it is since gas prices exploded), they will try to find a way to produce a car that doesn't need fossil fuels (at least gasoline) to run.  So in this sense, hybrids are effecting to future aswell.

  2. Yes

  3. Hybrids are a small stop-gap in increased fuel efficiency, which is completely lost in the increasing numbers of bigger cars sold.

but they do help focus attention on alternatives, and give people a taste of the less stressfull, quieter & smoother possibilities offered by pure electric.

Pure electric car technology could meet our motoring needs now http://www.phoenixmotors.com; but most people don't know about the possibility.

So hybrids do help raise awareness without scareing big oil & US car companies into reprisals like the crushing of the GM EV1 http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com

  4. IDK. Not Real Sure. I Think In the Future Most Cars Will Be Solar Powered though.

  5. I think it's a good way  to get car manufacuters to think about new technology so we can get to flying cars all wirelessly linked on the highways that drive themselves.

  6. Absolutely not, they are like a squirt gun in a forest fire. Hybrid cars is just a way to temporarily scilence band wagon enviromentalist so we will all just shut up and let the oil companies sell the last trillion or so dollars of oil to us at $4 a gallon while they set up another fuel source them can make us buy by the unit (hydrogen) WAKE UP PEOPLE AND DEMAND ELECTRIC....100% ELECTRIC CARS. Go drive your'e god awfully ugly prius down to the video stores and rent who killed the electric car and prepared to feel pissed off and then go to Tesla motorcars and zap cars on the web (look at the zap crossover  650hp 0-60 4 seconds  300 mile range 6hour charge) The  Tesla looks like a Ferrari but it's much, much faster, just  watch the video on the web site

  7. For one alternative, the future would be cleaved making the air cleaner.

  8. they will be FLYING EVERYWHERE

    I WANT FLYING CARS

  9. II believe that they are having an effect already.

The success that Prius and Civic hybrids are having is influencing the designs car manufactures are rolling out. There are a lot of niche manufacturers moving on battery electric vehicle designs also buoyed by this success.

While I don't believe those hybrids are "the answer " they are certainly moving in the right direction. There are quite a few advancements that have been developed in the hybrid/electric car development programmes that have become more mainstream. Every improvement means that little bit less pollution.

Things like these came from the ev1 project.

    Aluminium frame

    Dent resistant side panels

    Anti-lock brakes

    Traction control

    Heat pump (Heater/AC)

    Keyless entry and keyless ignition

Special one-way thermal glass to allow for better heat rejection

    Regenerative braking

Very low drag coefficient - Cd~0.19, CdA~0.36 m² (3.95 ft²)

    Super light magnesium alloy wheels

Self-sealing & low rolling resistance tires (developed by Michelin)

Automated tire pressure loss warning system

    Magnesium framed seats

Time programmable HVAC (cabin heating or cooling) settings

The next phase has already begun. The plug in hybrid will further reduce the amount of fossil fuel that hybrids use. It also has the logical extension of encouraging owners to install green power at home to keep them charged.

The final step will be when infrastructure is installed allowing for a vehicle to connect to an electric grid system in transit. This will allow for extremely efficient use of much less energy. The removal of battery weight will reduce the vehicle overall weight. Meaning that it will be able to accelerate with significantly less power. This combined with large-scale take up of green power by householders will have a dramatic effect on global energy emissions.

Of course I wouldn't suggest that anyone holds his or her breath until this happens. There are going to be an awful lot of distractions along the way. There are just so many influential and powerful people to convince

  10. I think they are one step toward electrical cars.

  11. Yes. People will be more conscious and aware of the benefits of buying a fuel efficient cars. The manufacturers will also be geared towards making more fuel efficient cars. Everybody wins.
