Will hyperventilation via ambubagging in 5 minutes can cause arrythmia?

a patient is intubated and suddenly the ETT was plugged with blood clots, hyperventilation and lavage was done and large blood clots was removed from the tube. And ambubagging was continued for a minute. Patiend has history of A. Fib.

  1. I'll be curious to hear the answer to this.  Speaking only for myself and personal experience, I go into V-fib from very short interruptions in breathing.  It also happens if I get down wind from a propane torch or grill. I have an AICD.


  2. Sounds like the patient had more than just respiratory problems going on. Blood in the lungs signifies a larger problem. Arrhythmia's can be caused by lack of oxygen to the heart, if that's what you mean. With a history of a fib, maybe the heart was already weakened? This is a very general question and is difficult to answer unless I know more of a history and more of the current situation.
