i've never really played sports before but i run and exercise on my own a lot. i run around 4 miles a day about 5 times a week, and i do some sprints and hills. i also do about 30-45 minutes of weightlifting 5 or 6 times a week. i want to do cross country, but i'm not sure i'll be able to keep up since a lot of people tell me practices are EXTREMELY hard. as of now, i have about 3 months to get in shape for the season, do you think i'll be able to do it?

  1. I'm a XC runner too, and if you run as much as you said, I think you will be just fine! Ask people who have been on the team before.

  2. yes, it sounds like u do a lot of stuff i think u would be able to do it and even if the practices are extremely hard it wont kill you and that only means ur going to do well in meets! Good Luck

  3. I am sure you can do it

before I joined cross country all I would run was at most 3 miles, 2 or 3 days a week

I decided to join it and it was really really really hard, but I made it through my first year and next year I am looking at a varsity spot!

you just have to stay strong not only physically, but mainly mentally ...that's probably the strenght most needed for cross country..mental strenght.

If you give up on yourself, you will not succeed. So just think positive and work hard and you will do great :]

  4. if what u say is true then cross country will be a piece of cake for you. most of the time people greatly exaggerate on the difficulty of sports. you will probably be the best on the team.

  5. yes.

you can do whatever you set your mind to doing. running is a mental sport. master that and you'll do fine. it sounds like you're on the right track..good luck

  6. absolutely you can, to get better prepared you need to cut back on the weightlifting and start running more miles, you don't need to keep track of how many you are doing per se, but wear a stop watch and go out for 20-30 minutes and then run back this gives you a solid 40-60 minute run. running based on milage is foolish because you may not run as fast or have the experience or endurance of other people. basing your runs on time is good because it enables you to go at your own pace.

  7. Sure you will be able to, I recommend increasing the miles over the summer and running 45- 65 miles a week. My coach said to run that much all summer to get  prepared for the season.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HAPPY RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
