I was fired from my job of 8 years due to tardiness. I have a son to take care and i just feel so lost right now. The tardiness was due to my son's sleep issues (he has night terrors) and issues with dropping him off at the babysitter and also car trouble. any advice would be much appreciated. thank you

  1. depends if you've been disiplined for it before. they will probably deny you and you have the right to appeal and speak up.

  2. You will need to check with the state of Illinois (employment dept) to see if you can still collect unemployment due to being fired. I know here in Ohio you probably can only get it from being laid off from your job. If you are fired, I dont think its available. Check it out!

  3. Since you weren't termed for what they unemployment people would call "gross misconduct" you will likely get the benefits.

But unfortunately, it also sounds like you might have been eligible for FMLA protection while you where working.  If you made your employer aware of your sons medical issues, and they employer has more than 50 employees, you may have ground to get your job back.  It might be worth contact the IL DOL.

    Good luck!
