was driving yesterday on a poorly marked road...with a specs camera....i couldnt see what the speed was on the road and think i went by both specs at about 46 or 47....it was a 40 zone.

now ive heard that speedometers on cars in the uk have a built in error that show indicated speed as being higher than actual speed which could be a high as up to 10%......i have also heard cameras have a certain prosecution milage allowance which means not everyone going over the speed limit will be prosecuted....any help would be appreciated

  1. The idea behind fixing candid cameras and imposing fine is to deter the people from making crime. It is more than Conscience that is needed. What kind of a man you are when you simply find lame excuses to escape from prosecution against your own crime?. If you are more worried about being prosecuted, you should be little more careful in future.

  2. Just keep your fingers crossed that your one of the lucky ones and be more careful in future.

  3. cops will let you get away with 6 or 7 over the limit.

  4. Nah, you won't be done for that seed difference, I regularly drive ten miles per hour over the limit through cameras and I've never been tagged yet.

  5. idk but good luck =s.

  6. I've never heard of the "built in error."  But I can say in the US, 46-47 wouldn't guarantee a speeding ticket. If you're talking about Km I supposed the speed difference would be even less than Mph.

Anyway, I'd wager you won't get a ticket. Just keep a closer eye on your speed and learn the roads in the future. Most roads around here you can pretty much guess what the speed limit would be by their size and busy-ness.

  7. The UK traffic cameras were tuned to 11MPH variation to allow for a 15% eerror margin in most cars spedo readings. The Gatso, truvelo cameras are set like this and also the

SPECS system. The SPECS system is not as forgiving as the the older systems and the total speed is calculated over a larger area which the police think is no excuse to be travelling at 85MPH on the motorway for 5 miles. I can tell you that the SPECS cameras on motorways are set at 79MPH for a fact. So if you apply a 9MPH error to all speed cameras i think you will be OK. On this occasion i think you will be OK. If you think you were travelling at 46 or 47 and you do get summonsed, ask to see the video / photo graphic evidence and get a second opinion from a solicitor as poor quality images and incorrect calibration times from each camera can get cases thrown out of court.. Good luck mate !
