hi i have just moved in with my 20yr old boyfriend and was wondering if i would be able to apply for EMA?

my boyfriend earns £18000. living with my parents, my father earned £90k+ so i wasn't entitled.

would i need to appoint my boyfriend as a legal guardian or not? and what information would i need to apply? thanks.

  1. you will probably have to live independantly from your family home to qualify, my daughter got refused ema because we didn't have accounts as my hubby is newly self employed and we certainly didn't earn anywhere near as much as your father.  You would get it on your boyfriends earnings only if you lived together at a different address i think. also she didn't get a bursary, just get travel ticket and we only just started getting child benefit for her cos she's 16 going on 17

  2. No as you live together as husband and wife

  3. Your going to live with your boyfriend, but you failed to mention if your parents will be giving you any maintence or money of any kind when you move out, if so then h**l no lol at £90,000 if your getting maintence you don't need Ema.

  4. Just ask your college, or visit the EMA site and ask them - they are the experts after all.

But, living with your parents, they are your household, and its their income that counts.  At 90k+ you ain't gonna get a thing.

The EMA isn't free money for the sake of it, its to help those who actually need the money to get their way though college.  Mine paid for my train fare, but not anything else
