I've recently finished uni and i'm living at home with my family. I would like to persuit a career in the police or the NHS, but i am living with my older brother who has been convicted and served time for a serious drug offence.

Police policy states that "if an applicant is living with a person with convictions for violence or dishonesty or is regularly in contact with the police for offences they must be rejected.". Does this mean me?

It seems so unfair that i can be penalised for another persons actions, particularly because I was away at uni when the offence happened and he has not reoffended and is very unlikely to.

  1. You should be fine. Make a good inpression and show you are nothing like your brother and be good on the job. Nobody will critisize you on having a druggie brother because you are not the druggie. And about the police policy you are not living with your druggie brother and your not in regular contact with them are you?

So stop worrying get that job and DON'T let your 'druggie' brother ruin your career.

  2. You should be fine. But be HONEST when they ask...don't try to hold anything back...You will definitely have to find another place to live though they will look at you living with him as condoning the behavior. Just be honest and ask them

  3. The only problem might be if the convictions were felony. In which case no weapons are allowed within reach of him. Misdemeanors are not a cause for any rejections.

  4. you will be fine our local sargent had a druggie sister when she joined

  5. Hey there,

You are going to be fine. That is for people that are living with a husband or wife, a close relationship like that. Basically, they are worried if you are living in a house where drug deals are going down. You obviously cannot control what your brother does.

Hey Congrats on completing your education, and good luck.. We need more people like you in this world
