  1. You will probably be schizophrenic forever, but that doesn't mean you will have the symptoms forever. Just remember to take your meds even if you feel better. I made the mistake of quitting my meds and I went right back into the hospital. My psych says maybe I can taper off the meds in a little while, but that probably won't happen. I've been diagnosed and misdiagnosed as a psychotic nos to bipolar to schizoaffective to finally psychotic depressive. So even the doc isn't sure. Anyways, I'm a little weird too. I wouldn't worry about that what does matter is if you still have positive or negative symptoms and if the meds are helping you. I wish you all the best.

  2. 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder.I have been taking meds all this time but I still feel low everyday and can't seem to shake it of,people say you can lead a normal life but I have no sign of this yet.

  3. I am afraid that there is no cure for schizophrenia. However modern drug therapy offers a high level of control.

  4. Every body's weird. What you mean to say is that you don't quite feel normal to what you expect and sometimes our actions follow suit. I have anxiety/depression...had it as long as I can remember. I take antidepressants to help me feel a little more even keel. But had to try a few meds to find out what makes me feel less loony...seriously. I'll bet your more self conscious more than anything and that just sends your anxiety out there.I took one med and I felt like a nervous chichiuaua zombie. You had to have been there!  If you feel really uncomfortable in your skin, then talk to your doc, okay.

  5. No!

This is just a Name for your Current State of mind, its nothing more than a label for your condition and its something that can be overcome but you need time. Depending on the cause you can beet the condition and overcome it.

Lastly never forget you r a person 1st of all, and you just have a problem at this current time but with counciling and good meds you can win!

  6. You might get better, but HER, I doubt it.

  7. Yes,

One of the biggest mistakes people with this disorder make is thinking to themselves "I feel fine now" and going off their medication.  Stay on the medication, it's working even if you think you're ok...thats why

  8. You will be schizophrenic forever. But with support and meds you should be able to control it, and lead an, if not normal, at least productive life.

  9. Schizophrenia is believed to be a disorder that is not curable. Nevertheless, the medications now available to treat the disorder seem to alleviate the disorder to a remarkable degree, often to the point the symptoms are all but eradicated. One must stay on the medication or the symptoms will recur.

  10. Even though you will have schizophrenia forever, you won't necessarily feel weird forever. Keep taking your medication, talk to your supports (counsellors, doctors, friends etc) and find ways to relax and live a healthy lifestyle and that should help you feel more "normal."

If you continue to feel weird talk to your doctor about it, they may have some suggestions like medication change.

Or if the feeling cannot be changed you could learn ways to cope with it.

  11. There is no cure for schizophrenia. I know how you are feeling, I am also schizophrenic and it's not easy. But I'm on medication and have the support of my family and friends, which makes it bearable. You can't make it go away, but you can make it feel better so that you can lead a happy life.

I'm married with two children and I'm 'normal' most of the time, my medication keeps it at bay.

  12. Yes.

  13. yes but if u get good meds and support u can lead a happy life i have manic depression its hard but im getting there and so will you

  14. People can recover from one off episodes.  However you should keep taking your medication until your doctor tells you otherwise.

"25 per cent of people diagnosed with schizophrenia have only a single attack from which they recover completely. In 1987 only one person in ten was still in hospital five years after a first bout of schizophrenia. This figure is now lower still, although many of those who in the past would have stayed in hospital for a long time are now in hostels and nursing homes with a high degree of support.

However, over half of those who develop schizophrenia do suffer quite considerable continuing disability, or have repeated attacks, usually not doing so well in life as they might otherwise have done. By 'disability' here we mean that the person is unable to do enough - looking after themselves, working, socialising, - to lead as full and happy a life as they might otherwise have done. Some may be quite disabled - a very few to the extent that they have to stay permanently in hospital, or in very highly supported housing.

    Effect of family history

The prospect for schizophrenia is better for those who do not have a family history of the illness. A relatively abrupt onset is also a good sign, particularly if it follows some kind of sudden stress. Negative symptoms indicate a relatively bad outlook, mainly because they will probably persist when the acute symptoms have gone."

  15. yes but you must stay on your meds, don't make the mistake of thinking you are fine now and go of them, stick to them and you will lead a happy life

  16. It will continue so long as you are clinging on to the memory of what it is like which is not hard to do since it is very distressing and has a strong impact on your mind and beliefs. You may always have a tendency towards it, but the initial breakdown is the worst, and you will develop coping mechanisms and over the years become more relaxed about it. You can't forget about something because you want to- it involve you passively letting go of it, and moving on in your life. And this really only works when you are being natural and are inspired and supported to do something which takes you away from your current situation and gives you positive feelings and something to focus your thoughts. Until you find this thing you will probably keep returning to the same mindset. I suffer something similar. I have some totally dreadful memories of going through psychosis and it still affects me. But sometimes good things happen don't they, you meet a new friend you really get on with or something. Keep trying, it can take time, eventually something will take, and your life will move on.
