the guy at the local shop said if i wanted to pay my music louder i should get an amp, and that most people have amps for their front speakers because the rear is just for filling.

i have sony xplod 6 1/2" speakers in the door (i am happy with the quality, contrary to popular opinion) and he recommended the Eclipse EA2000 (http://www.eclipse-web.com/amp/ea2000.html).

he gave me a deal for $150. what i want to know is will it be worth it to hook the speakers up to the amp?

or am i better off ditching it and just buying subs?

he sells PowerBass so he recommended the ASA 400.2 amp with their WB10 dual 10" sub box

basically i have the quality, i just want more thump in my music. let me know what you think.

  1. if you want louder speakers you should get a 4 channel amp to power your front AND back speakers...on ebay you can get a lot of 4 channel amps for 100-200.  Like Hifonics, MB Quarts, Kicker, Rocksford etc...Installation of an amp usually costs around 100 dollars.  Try finding someone who knows how to do it and buy the kit for 20 bucks.  And I'm not sure if PowerBass is a good amp.  If you want some more bass/thump..you should opt to get a sub and an amplifier to match.  see if you can go to a bestbuy or circuit city and listen to some amps/subwoofers..

  2. The benefit to having an amp on your inside speakers is that you will have a cleaner signal going to the speakers and you will be able to play them louder at a better quality. The power in most aftermarket radios states that it is 50x4, but that is max power it can give out at any time for 1 second. They put out anywhere between 19-26 watts a channel, but nowhere near as clean as an amplifier. The front speakers in a car are the most important. You sit in the front, that's where you want your sound to be.  Now inside speakers can't reproduce the low end bass that a woofer will so a woofer might still be needed for your taste in music. The only thing is with just getting an amp and sub, is that you don't want to drown out you inside speakers. You can always go with the sub and amp first, but plan ahead for later. Use a larger power wire so that you can split off of it if you do get another amp for you inside speakers. Hope this will help.
