I understand that this is a not really a question, I am more looking for the opinion of qualified teachers. I plan to apply to GTTR (teacher training in Scotland) to study post-grad next month to start in 2009.

I have a BA(hons) in Business Studies have the correct maths qualification and am studying higher english as an evening class now, I also have 1 years experience in a nursery which I got before I went to uni (which i think will count for something?).

Am I likely to be accepted onto the PGCE course or is the competition really tough?

  1. Competition is really tough, but I can see that you are also that tough with your status. Surely you will, why not.

  2. The qualifications on entry varies from previous degree and whether the University is an internationally recognised university depending from what qualifications you studied correlating to the post graduate studies whether there are any co-related subjects which the post graduate course relates to your degree course for you to be able to cope up. I think before you are qualified, you should persue back the course that corresponds to your majors in your degrees to let the Board of University decide, you can enquire at http://www.britishcouncil.org/ and Most degree courses in UK requires an in-house english examination before the post-graduate course can proceed to ensure you can catch what they are talking. Went i was in the UK, all international students are compulsory to sit for the English external exams from the University Board of examiners in UK again for the qualifying round of entry to the Degree course. I got A2 from my past GCE 'O' level in Malaysia but when i was in UK and i still have to sit for another English exam made compulsory by the UK University board of examiners, to qualify for the degree course there, and strong credits are required in certain subjects like arts, science and maths too, For final year degree and post graduates, entry requirements could be higher

  3. Sounds like you will be accepted without any difficulty. Finding a job when you qualify is another matter.

  4. I definitely think so!!!

  5. Of course you will. You're easily qualified enough.

  6. The competition is tough but it sounds like you may have a good chance of getting on.  It would be more relevant if you had experience in a school - even if it's just on a voluntary basis but a nursery is still working with children.

If you don't get on this year I recommend that you get some experience in a school before applying again.

    Good luck.
