  1. No..

  2. Yes many agencys preffer some millitary background but in reality you will have to Join a Citizen Police Academy to receive your POSt cetification. The degree will get youa higher pay rate.

It all depends on how well you do on the entrance exam to the academy.

  3. It may give you more of an edge if you were at least 21 years of age or older.

Most facilities want to hire people who are at least 21 years of age.  They are looking for people with more life experience, people who have done a little more in their life.

Some thing that you may want to consider is getting a degree in Criminal Justice, as that will give you an greater edge as well in being able to get hired.   Plus by the time you got a degree in Criminal Justice you'd be even more prepared to work in the field of Corrections.  Its a demanding job where they are always going to need good Officers.

You would be doing your own self a favor by getting a degree in Criminal Justice, it will open a lot of doors for you.  It will give you an even wider future than Corrections if you want.

I hope that this helps answer your question.  I wish you all the best with a future in Corrections.  God bless you.

BTW: For Reducto:  There is no such thing as a prison guard!  Guards watch things such as buildings/parking lots etc.

People who work in prisons/jails are called Correctional Officers, that is because they watch people and not things.   And by the way they are law enforcement Officers, just so that you know the facts.

  4. no, corrections officers are like police officers and must be 21 before being accepted. Once you reach 21 however go straight for what you want to be, it is easier to go from officer to corrections than corrections to an officer.

  5. Your a MP a highly Respected Person in the "army" or what not that will look really good on Ur Resume + the army is supposed to pay for u to go to school to do what you want and or help you find your job as a correctional officer if you want

  6. Why would you want to be a corrections officer? As in a prison-a  prison guard?

Im sure it would give you a edge but why not shoot for something bigger. Why not a career in law enforcement/police officer instead?
